The short version
Crumple has no account, and your library, reading positions and settings stay on your iPhone. When you save an article, your phone fetches it directly from the website it came from. To learn whether the app is working, Crumple sends four anonymous usage events, tied to a random install identifier, and never your name, email, or what you read. There are no ads, no tracking across other apps, and we never sell data.
Who we are
Crumple is made by Oguzhan Cakmak (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Crumple iPhone app and this website. Questions go to support@artifekt.app.
What stays on your phone
Everything you put into Crumple is stored in a local database on your device:
- your library of articles and books, including their text;
- where you are in each one;
- your settings, such as reading pace and focus loop.
We don’t run a server that receives any of this. We can’t see it, and we have no copy of it.
Saving articles and opening books
When you share an article to Crumple, your device downloads that page directly from the website it came from, the same way Safari would. That website sees an ordinary request from your phone, under its own privacy policy. The request doesn’t pass through us.
EPUB files you open are copied into the app’s storage on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere.
Anonymous product analytics
To learn whether Crumple is useful, for example whether people come back and finish a second article, the app sends a small number of anonymous events to PostHog, an analytics service that processes them on our behalf. It sends exactly four kinds of event:
- Onboarding completed, and whether it was skipped;
- Article or book imported, and only how: shared, pasted, or EPUB;
- Reading session, with the mode (page or Stream) and a rough length (under 1 minute, 1–5, 5–15, or over 15 minutes);
- Article finished, with nothing else attached.
Each event carries a random identifier created when the app is installed, so we can count “one install, two finished articles” without knowing who anyone is. We never send your name, email, an account, article URLs, titles, text, or search terms. Crumple does not use Apple’s advertising identifier, and does not record your screen.
Like any internet request, sending an event exposes your device’s IP address to PostHog. We don’t collect or store IP addresses ourselves, and we don’t use them to identify you. PostHog handles that network information under its own privacy policy and terms.
Notifications
Crumple can schedule one optional reminder, as a local notification set on your phone. We don’t use push notifications, and no notification data leaves your device.
What we don’t do
- No ads.
- No tracking across other companies’ apps or websites.
- No selling or sharing of data for advertising.
- No account, login, or contact details asked of you.
Deleting your data
Deleting Crumple from your iPhone removes your library, reading positions and settings. Because analytics events are anonymous, we can’t link them to you, so there is nothing we can find or delete for a particular person. If you have questions, email support@artifekt.app.
This website
This site has no cookies, analytics, or forms. Its typeface is loaded from Google Fonts, and it is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
Children
Crumple is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top.
